DCCC promotes Doherty to Red to Blue program

The purpose of the Red to Blue program is to help Democrats win congressional seats held by Republicans by providing them strategic, financial and organizational support.

Doherty was previously on the DCCC's Emerging Races list, which features candidates that are generating "buzz" and whose races have the potential to become competitive. The DCCC considers candidates in their Red to Blue program to be in particularly competitive races.

"Larry Joe Doherty is running a solid campaign and is committed to making things easier for middle class families in their districts," DCCC Chairman Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) said in a statement. "With less than 21 days to make his case for change to voters, the Red to Blue program will give Larry Joe the financial and structural edge to be even more competitive in November."

Doherty, a Houston attorney and former television personality, is running against U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Austin) in the 10th Congressional District.

"With the ridiculous additions we have seen to the ‘Red-to-Blue' list in recent weeks, it appears all you have to do to be added is ask," said National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Brendan Buck. "Unfortunately for the Doherty campaign, inside-the-beltway nicknames don't win votes in Texas."
