Hispanic voters overwhelmingly supported President-elect Barack Obama in the general election, voting for him by an approximate two-to-one margin and providing him with the winning margin in two swing states, Indiana and New Mexico.
But will Obama return the favor as he picks his Cabinet?
When PolitickerTX.com reported Wednesday that the League of United Latin American Citizens had received a "very good response" over the potential appointment of San Antonio labor organizer Linda Chavez-Thompson to labor secretary, LULAC Executive Director Brent Wilkes said it was conditional on "if the pieces fit right."
"If he appoints Latinos to other positions in the Cabinet, it might be harder," Wilkes told PolitickerTX.com.
Much to the dismay of other Hispanic Democrats, Obama doesn't seem to be considering many Hispanics for those other White House or Cabinet positions. According to a report today in MSNBC's First Read, many Hispanics "are not happy with the leaks coming out of the transition and the lack of Hispanic names being floated outside of (Bill) Richardson."
